Children’s orthodontist in Cheshire
At Dr Dev Orthodontics, we provide specialist orthodontic care for children, focusing on early assessment and carefully timed treatment. As a children’s orthodontist serving Cheshire and Knutsford, Dr Shelat works with families to guide healthy jaw development, identify emerging issues, and support balanced, long-term outcomes.
Early assessment allows potential concerns to be identified at the right stage, meaning treatment can be recommended only when necessary and at the most appropriate time.
We welcome families from across Cheshire, including Wilmslow, Alderley Edge, Macclesfield, Knutsford and the surrounding areas.
When should my child see an orthodontist?
The British Orthodontic Society recommends that children have an orthodontic assessment between the ages of 7 and 9. At this stage, it is possible to monitor how adult teeth are developing and identify early signs of crowding, bite concerns, or jaw growth issues.
Early assessment does not necessarily mean early treatment. In many cases, we simply monitor your child’s development over time and advise on the most appropriate stage to begin treatment, if it becomes necessary.
At Dr Dev Orthodontics, this measured, specialist-led approach ensures that any treatment is carefully timed to support healthy development and achieve the best long-term outcome.
Common signs your child may need orthodontic treatment
- Crowded, crooked or protruding teeth
- Early or late loss of baby teeth
- Difficulty biting or chewing
- Thumb sucking beyond early childhood
- Teeth that do not meet properly (overbite, underbite or crossbite)
- All baby teeth do not need to be lost before treatment can start
Braces for kids - options in Cheshire
If treatment is required, we offer a range of brace options tailored to your child’s needs, including:
- Traditional Metal Fixed Braces – Durable and highly effective for growing smiles.
- Ceramic Braces – A more discreet fixed option for older children and teens.
- Functional Appliances – Used to guide jaw growth in certain cases.
During your child’s consultation, Dr Shelat will explain the most suitable treatment plan based on their age, dental development and orthodontic needs.
What to expect at your child’s first orthodontic consultation
Your child’s appointment includes a thorough clinical examination, digital scans and a personalised discussion about treatment options. We take time to ensure both parents and children feel fully informed and comfortable before any treatment begins. If braces are recommended, we provide clear information about treatment duration, costs and flexible payment options.

What children’s treatment costs in Cheshire
Children’s orthodontics is often done in two stages, and the fees reflect that. Every figure below is a starting price – your child’s exact fee is confirmed at their consultation:
- Early treatment (Phase 1) – £2,995. Interceptive work while your child is still growing, usually to create room or correct a developing bite problem before it becomes harder to treat.
- Later treatment (Phase 2) – £3,995. The alignment stage, once the adult teeth are through.
- Teen fixed braces – £3,500 for a dual arch.
- Clear aligners for teens – £3,850 for a dual arch.
Not every child needs both phases. Many need only one, and some need nothing at all yet – in which case Dr Dev will say so and see your child again when the timing is right, rather than starting treatment early for the sake of it.
Retainers are included in the price of every treatment and are never charged as an extra – you only pay if one later needs replacing, at £170 each. Your child’s virtual consultation is free, and you can spread any treatment fee over up to 12 months, interest-free, directly with the practice.
